About the Emergency Animal Care Response
This fund was created by concerned animal welfare organizations in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 crisis. It was clear at the time that animal companions would be affected by the disruption caused by the pandemic, and emergency funding would be needed to support the shelters and foster families that would be caring for them immediately and under similar emergency circumstances in the future.
The fund will support animal care/animal welfare organizations across the Community Foundation’s 5 county region (Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, and Tioga Counties) with a focus on organizations in Broome County.
Grants from the fund will support emergency response and recovery efforts related to animal welfare including:
- direct care of animals; food, veterinary care, medical supplies and vaccinations
- housing of animals for individuals unable to temporarily care for their pets; including those experiencing financial hardship
- transportation costs associated with safely transporting animals to other facilities
- supplies to individuals willing to serve as foster parents for pets to alleviate demand on shelter capacity
