About the Fund
Established in 2018, the Mello-Dears All-Girls Drum and Bugle Corps Scholarship Fund was formed from the dissolution of the Mello-Dears All-Girls Drum and Bugle Corps. Founded in 1961 by Fred Ford, the Corps had a long and illustrious history of making music in the southern tier.
To honor that history, and Fred, Fred’s children, Barbara Carpenter and Rick Ford, established this fund which will offer scholarships for a female graduating senior from school districts in Tioga, Broome, Chenango, Chemung & Tompkins Counties.
To qualify for consideration, candidates must meet the criteria as follows:
1. Pursuing a career in music performance or music education
2. Attendance at a 2 or 4 year college or university, preferably as a music major
3. Consideration will also to be given to
a. GPA
b. Participation in school music ensembles
c. Character
The schools participating will be reviewed and changed each year by the Community Foundation, so as to represent the entire region formerly served by the organization.
